Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) produced from fermenting sugars and vegetable oils using genetically enhanced bacteria. Its characteristics are similar to those of the petroplastic polypropylene. The South American sugar industry, for example, has decided to expand PHB production to an industrial scale.
